i just came across your site in google.

i got a small bug bite at the beach on my lower back, and i picked at it. barely, literally, it itched, so i dragged my nail across it one time. i felt something pull off of it, so i figured it was a scab. after a few days, it was about as round as a quarter. i thought it was a tick, and i had like picked its body off or something, and i was thinking to burn it off with a cig, but thought eh, i might as well use the medicaid i have (27 y/o college student lol). so i go there, the dr looks at it and says its prob some sort of staph. he put me on bactrim and keflex. i followed up with my family dr, who recommended draining it. this was yesterday. he told me to take the gauze out of the hole today, so i did...what a fucking nightmare. its like my skin healed over it. anyways, its been bleeding a little into to bandage i put on it, but not a lot. mostly red blood, not anything alarming, but its like slightly white inside, like a bump. i'm assuming thats just the skin closing up and whatnot. i'm going to have him look at it in a few days just to make sure its ok.

i don't work out, i don't even have a job. i'm not even in school right now because its summer. the only thing i really do is go to the beach and hang out with my friends, no sports, nothing. this can happen to literally anybody.

I am taking Bactrin with no side effects. The spider bite thing was what alerted me that I might have a problem. The internet is a great thing! I will get some antibacterial shower scrub as you suggest. Thanks

SixPackFast, thanks for stopping by. Hmm, I have written posts, but with my name or username in them. I think my last post was in an atheist blog here in wordpress, but farther than that, I don't remember.

I don't think I've ever posted anonymously or as guest, though :)

I work as a social worker in a dialysis unit. I had a bad bike accident last summer where I landed on my face, lacerated my tongue and broke my hand. My face was swollen for months, so I didn't worry when the swelling subsided in my upper face and started in my chin. My husband mentioned it to me and I went to my DR Wednesday and she's pretty sure it's MRSA. I'm on Bactrin. So far, no side effects, except I'm really tired.

Thank you for your story. I don't understand it all. I'm hoping this will take a quick and healing course. Youre recommendations on dial are good and I'll start with that.

Keep me in your thoughts. It's been a long, demoralizing process!

MRSA will frighten you to the core. It's a flesh eating monster that is highly resistant to antibiotics. A swab sample was taken of my wound and submitted for ID and antibiotic resistance analysis. Now I am on 500mg tablets of tetracycline @4 tablets/day for 14 days. According to the lab there seems to be some hope that this regimen will be successful. I am on my 4th day with a long way to go. It is my understanding that everything is being tried to control MRSA by hospitals, etc. but the incidence keeps increasing. Those going to medical facilities and for that matter any place where the skin is broken are being exposed. I understand that there are more cases of MRSA than AIDS every day. I wish CDC would summerize the latest and greatest treatments available for this microbe. Any scratch or cut that doesn't heal in 48 to 72 hours with standard treatment should be taken very seriously.

I am so sorry you had such a bad time and glad you are recovering. I know your ordeal must have been terrible. I have a friend who has MRSA and his problems started when he broke his leg last May and the infection jumped on his bone. He has had 4 surgeries and received and antibiotic through a picc line at his home for months. He is now on pill antibiotics but his leg started to heal and then broke again even though he wasn't using it. It will still be about 8-10 weeks before he can put weight on it. His joints ache so bad that when he does get up and move around with is crutches, he can't stay up long. You can imagine how hard this is for him mentally also because he has always been very active and has a family to support. He has (of course) been out of work since last May. God Bless you and thanks for providing this information about yourself so others can learn about MRSA.

No bro. I don't have the infection anymore. After the doc changed me from bactrin to clindamycin, the infection was out in a couple of days.

Although the infection was gone, it took months for the wound to close fully. It reopened a couple of times until it fully sealed. In addition to that, it took a tool on my health. I got proned to colds and flu, and a general feeling of exhaustion that lasted for months.

Now I'm better and I can train grappling and lift again.

Sorry to hear you got sick from the bactrim. I know how that feels. Unfortunately for you and I we cannot use it, which will limit the type of antibiotics we can use in case we get staph again.

Be safe and I hope you are feeling better (or if not, feel better soon.)
